Meet Your Innkeepers
Glenn and Gwenn relocated to Jacksonville in 2007, after living in Alton for 25 years. Two months later, Valerie joined the family and she was officially adopted when she was eight. The Eyers enjoy sharing their historic home and gardens with others. They feel very much at home in Jacksonville, and love welcoming guests to the Bed & Breakfast and guiding them as they explore the Jacksonville area. They are very active in the community and are familiar with the local historic sites, shops, and restaurants. They’re happy to use their expertise to provide recommendations and help develop travel itineraries.
Whether you are planning a night on the town, a romantic getaway, a business trip, or a family reunion, Blessings on State Bed & Breakfast is the premier choice for lodging in the Jacksonville and Springfield Illinois area. Experience the charm and ambiance of an intimate getaway for two, use it as a quiet workplace, or join friends and family for a week-long reunion at Blessings on State.
A very hard worker, Glenn stays busy at the Bed & Breakfast while keeping up with his other work. From landscaping to home repairs and maintenance, he does it all! Though innkeeping is not his first choice vacation, he lovingly supports Gwenn as she makes her dream come true as an innkeeper.
“We believe it is the Lord’s blessing that has allowed us to have this opportunity, and we want to be a blessing to others.”
After a year focused more heavily on battling Cancer than on day-to-day innkeeping, Gwenn is happy to be back in action. She loves welcoming guests into her home and community. A published author and public speaker, she is passionate about entertaining, cooking, decorating, and gardening. Knowledgeable about and involved in the community, she enjoys serving as Concierge. She continually looks for ways to make Blessings on State Bed & Breakfast “just a little bit better than it was yesterday,” and she looks forward to welcoming you as her guest.
“Come as visitors, leave as friends.”
Mary White, respected author and CEO of BnBFinder, recently called Valerie, “America’s Youngest Innkeeper.” Last summer, Val stepped into the innkeeper role while her mom was going through chemotherapy, and she handled it very well. Today she’s back in the role of Assistant Innkeeper, giving welcome tours and serving breakfast. When you read our online reviews you’ll find that Valerie has received many sweet messages from past guests. An excellent student, Valerie co-wrote “Why Did We have to Say Goodbye: Valerie’s Story” with Gwenn and has had the opportunity to share her story as she advocates for child abuse prevention. She’s very popular with our guests.
“The Tranquility sitting room has an extra day bed if you like to stay up and read at night. Or if one of you snores.”
We’re Thankful for “Good Help!”
We have a great team backing us up at Blessings!
Mary is our terrific Associate Innkeeper. Her hospitality background, along with her community connections, make her a great asset to Blessings on State! She has promoted growth in our Fourth of July Lawn and Porch Party on an annual basis. Mary’s very warm and welcoming and is a terrific cook. Our guests love her!
Kelly is our general assistant and housekeeper. If you look at Innkeeper Gwenn’s skills and interests listed above you may note that cleaning didn’t even make the list. With an older home such as this one, it takes a lot of work to keep it polished and presentable and we’re very thankful for Kelly’s attention to detail. She is a valued member of our service team and she does a great job representing our B&B at community events.
