Chef Susan Steffan returns to Blessings on State Bed & Breakfast in Jacksonville, Illinois, for another cooking class and private dinner party on April 1, 2023. Join other couples for this fun and educational event – the only event of its kind in Jacksonville – no fooling!
Chef Susan is entertaining and engaging, graciously sharing her skills, experience and talent as she teaches you the skills you need to prepare your own romantic dinner at home. This event includes a demonstration-based cooking class followed by a private dining experience in our formal dining room.
NOTE: Class size is limited and we are starting with a waiting list from those unable to attend our earlier Chef Event.

Susan Steffan and her husband Don purchased Farmers Guest House Bed & Breakfast, relocating to Galena, Illinois in 2012. Susan completely re-invented the breakfast service at her new inn. Her breakfast quickly was named the “Best Breakfast in North America,” capturing the attention of the Food Network where she was an episode winning competitor on the Holiday Baking Championship. Susan has showcased her baking and cooking skills on both local and national television shows, and was recently was featured in an episode of Family Dinner on the Magnolia Network. Event Schedule at Blessings on State Bed & Breakfast:
Couples Cooking class – 4:00pm
Guests are invited to enjoy appetizers as they gather in the formal dining room at Blessings on State Bed & Breakfast to watch Chef Susan demonstrate various components of the evening’s dinner menu. Chef will demonstrate knife skills and roasting techniques and guests will be invited to participate as they learn to prepare impressive and delicious Hasselback Potatoes. Each couple will take home a custom recipe booklet with recipes, tips and techniques to help them prepare this fine three course meal for their next romantic dinner.
The Cooking Class will be held here at Blessings on State Bed & Breakfast beginning at 4:00pm.
Social Hour – 6:00pm
Gather in the front parlor to enjoy a Social Hour before dinner. VIP guests may wish to go up to your suite to change for dinner (optional).
Chef’s Table – 7:00pm
Private dining experience where Chef Susan will show off her skills in an intimate dinner party in our formal dining room. Dine on fine china and crystal for this elegant dinner.
Dinner will take place in the formal dining room at Blessings on State Bed & Breakfast at 7:00pm.
NOTE: Non-alcoholic beverages will be served, and you’re welcome to bring your own favorite wine.
